The discs of black Onyx (gef.) are about 10mm in size and about 3-4mm thick.
All strands are 40cm long and strung for transport. We recommend replacing the transport thread of the onyx strand with suitable knotting material.
The name Onyx is derived from the Greek word "onyx" meaning "nail"; presumably this name, which has been in use for many centuries, refers to the surface of the polished stone, which resembles shiny fingernails. Spellings like onix or onyk are therefore not correct.
