Strand of beads, Jasper (Snake Jasper), 08mm (39cm)

The brown balls of snakeskin jasper with the dark brown grain have a diameter of 8mm; the entire strand of jasper is 39cm long.

Snake Jasper is also called Elephant Jasper, Snake Stone, Fossil Jasper or Golden Lace Jasper/Jasper.

Mineralogically, Snake Jasper is a silicified clay rock. The contained tiny fossils (so called foraminifera) cause the interesting patterns and structures of the mineral. Colors are mainly aluminum silicates (dark brown), iron hydroxide (light yellow-brown) and partly manganese oxides (black).
