The balls of Sardonyx have a diameter of 10mm and a shiny surface. The whole gemstone strand is about 40cm long.

The red-brown part of Sardonyx is also called Sard. The name Sardonyx, like the mineral itself, is composed of the black-white Onyx and the orange-brown Sard; the spelling Sardonix is therefore not correct.
