The intense purple faceted spheres of phosphosiderite have a diameter of 3mm, the entire strand of spheres is about 40cm long.

The name phosphosiderite is derived from "phospho" for phosphorus and "sideros (Greek for iron); the name given in 1890 by Franz Siegfried Willy Bruhns and Karl Heinrich Emil Georg Busz is also recognized by the International Mineralogical Association (IMA). The spelling phosphorsiderite is not correct.
