The salt comes from the famous Salt Range in the north-east of Pakistan (Punjab province), about 160 km from Islamabad and 260 km from Lahore. The salt mines around Khewra are located in a foothill of the Himalayas, but are not directly associated with the Himalayan massif. Alexander salt is therefore also known commercially as "Himalayan salt" or "Himalayan salt".
