Abraham Gottlob Werner (1749-1817) first named the rhodochrosite manganese spar, taking into account its chemical composition and good fissility. In 1813, Friedrich Hausmann (1782-1859) gave the rhodochrosite its name "Rhodochrosite", which is still valid today. This is derived from the ancient Greek words "rhodo" (rose) and "chrosite" (color). Spellings like Rhodhocrosite, Rhodochosite, Rhodocrosite, Rodhocrhosite, Rodochrosite or Rodocrosite are therefore not correct. Nowadays obsolete names for the Rhodochrosite are Incaspat/Inkarose, Raspberry spar, Rose spar and Manganese spar.
