Kimberlite was named after the South African town of Kimberley. Spellings such as Kimbalite, Kumbalite or Kimberlite, which are occasionally found in retail and wholesale trade, are therefore incorrect. A synonym for Kimberlite which is not in use today is Blaugrund.
